MiniVAN Canvassing Overview
Assuming you have an ActionID account and have successfully setup MiniVAN on your Android or iOS device and added a canvassing list, you should be ready to start canvassing with the app.
Once you have downloaded a list, you should be put into the main list overview. It should also sort the list based on your current location. This screen is useful to see the overview of the canvass walk list and the general area of the canvass.
On this main screen there is the list name at the top and next to it your sync status. Sync status is important, as it will send the results of your canvassing back to Votebuilder.
Below that, there are two views – household and people and the map view. This will switch the view from sorting by households (or doors) and the individual people on the list. The map is maked with the individual doors and the number of people to canvass at each address.
Below this is the list itself, along with the ability to filter and search the list by street name. You can also filter out households that you have already canvassed.
You can also click on "All Households" and filter by either odd or even house numbers.
Finally, at the very bottom there are buttons to switch to the other screens. The most useful will be "Next Door" which will be your guide as you go from household to household canvassing.
On the Next Door screen, you should be presented with the overview with all of the households sorted by the order that MiniVAN thinks they should be canvassed based on your location.
To start canvassing, tap on the first household to be taken into the household details screen which shows the map with the location of the household, and the people at that household.
From this screen you can tap into each person at this household and see the individual script for the canvass, which could be a mix of questions and statuses. The simple one below for a literature drop just asks to mark if it was dropped successfully. There are also tabs for details on the voter, a place to add notes and the contact history of the voter.
Once you are in the voter canvass screen, you can use the navigation in the lower part of the screen to go through each person and household in order to canvass and make your way through the walklist.
If you use the back arrow to exit the voter view, you can switch to any of the other views, including the progress screen which will display your overall progress
As well as the menu screen which will show your account info, a button to manually sync or to download a new walklist.
That is the general process for canvassing. It is critical that you make sure that the data you entered is synced, especially once you are done. You can do this by going into the menu screen and tapping the "Sync" button.
Overall, the process is generally straightforward to canvass with MiniVAN. You download the list, go into the "Next Door" section which will give you your starting address. Click on that address and then the first voter. Enter the script responses and then use the navigation at the bottom to go to the next person at that address or the next address.
